“Long Road to the Far North”

“Back in Kusatsu, we explored the temple at the top of town and the little abandoned-looking cemetery. There was also a monument to Kobayashi Issa, one of my favorite haiku poets. We got our mushroom tempura again and then…perhaps…we found ourselves drifting towards the purse shop and maybe one of us got a slightly more affordable wine-colored purse with a clever looking bird on it and the other of us got a new belt…just to make up for the goblin pushing me into the boiling stream.”
